Amazon Brand Registry is Amazon’s free brand-protection and brand-building program. To enroll you need three things: an active registered or pending trademark from an approved IP office, an Amazon Seller or Vendor account, and your brand name on the product or packaging. Enrollment costs $0 and approval typically takes days.
And as of March 31, 2026, FBA sellers without it must sticker every unit with an Amazon FNSKU label, so the case for enrolling is stronger than ever.
What is Amazon Brand Registry?
Brand Registry is Amazon’s system for verifying who actually owns a brand. Once you’re verified against a trademark, Amazon treats you as the brand’s representative: you control your product detail pages, unlock brand-only marketing tools, and get access to counterfeit and listing-abuse protections that unregistered sellers simply don’t have.
It is not optional infrastructure anymore. Sponsored Brands ads, A+ Content, Brand Stores, and Brand Analytics are all gated behind it. For a consumer brand serious about Amazon, Brand Registry is step one, before advertising, before creative, before launch strategy.
What changed for Brand Registry in 2026?
Two policy shifts made 2026 the year enrollment stopped being a nice-to-have. First, Amazon ended commingled inventory on March 31, 2026. Alongside that change, only brands enrolled in Brand Registry (with the Brand Representative role) can keep using manufacturer UPC barcodes for FBA inventory.
Everyone else must now print and apply an Amazon FNSKU label to every single unit they send into FBA. That is real money: extra labeling fees or prep time on every shipment, forever. Second, Amazon tightened ASIN-creation rules in June 2026, adding stricter checks on brand names for new listings.
The direction is clear. Amazon keeps drawing a harder line between verified brand owners and everyone else, and it keeps moving benefits to the verified side of that line.
What do you need to qualify?
A live trademark
Registered or pending, from an approved IP office (USPTO, EUIPO, UKIPO, and others). Word marks and design marks with words both qualify.
An Amazon account
An active Seller Central or Vendor Central account. Brand Registry itself lives at brandregistry.amazon.com and links to that login.
Brand on the product
Your brand name must be permanently visible on the product or its packaging, and it must match the trademark text exactly.
The most common rejection reasons are mismatches: a trademark that says one thing while the packaging says another, or product photos where the brand name isn’t visible. Fix those before you apply and most of the friction disappears.
How much does Brand Registry cost?
Brand Registry enrollment is free, and so is everything it unlocks: A+ Content, Brand Stores, Brand Analytics, and the violation-reporting tools. The real cost is the trademark. A USPTO application has a $350 base fee per class of goods, and most consumer products need one or two classes.
If you use an attorney or an Amazon IP Accelerator law firm, add legal fees on top; a typical all-in budget lands between $350 and $2,000. Against the FNSKU labeling costs and locked features of staying unregistered, it is one of the highest-ROI line items in an Amazon launch budget.
Can you enroll with a pending trademark?
Yes, and this is the single most useful thing most guides bury. Full USPTO registration commonly takes a year or more from filing. But Amazon accepts pending applications from approved IP offices, so you can file this week and enroll in Brand Registry within days of getting your serial number.
Two paths into Brand Registry
You do not have to wait for full trademark registration to enroll.
Typical USPTO total pendency runs well past a year for many applications. A pending application from an approved office qualifies for Brand Registry enrollment, including filings made through Amazon’s IP Accelerator network of vetted law firms.
IP Accelerator is worth knowing about if you have no trademark at all: Amazon connects you with pre-vetted law firms at pre-negotiated rates, and filings made through them are recognized by Brand Registry immediately. You still pay the law firm and the USPTO fees, but you skip the long wait.

What does Brand Registry actually unlock?
This is why the trademark is worth it. The table below is the practical difference between selling as an anonymous listing and operating as a verified brand on Amazon in 2026.
| Without Brand Registry | With Brand Registry | |
|---|---|---|
| A+ Content | Not available | Basic + Premium A+ on every ASIN |
| Brand Store | Not available | Free multi-page storefront with its own URL |
| Ad formats | Sponsored Products only | Adds Sponsored Brands + Sponsored Display |
| Brand Analytics | Not available | Search-term, demographics + market-basket data |
| FBA barcodes (2026 rule) | FNSKU label on every unit | Manufacturer UPC barcodes allowed |
| Listing control | Edits fight the catalog | Brand owner’s content wins detail-page disputes |
| IP protection | Generic seller support | Report a Violation tool + automated protections; Transparency + Project Zero eligible |
| Extras | Vine reviews, Virtual Bundles, Manage Your Experiments A/B testing |
The conversion tools alone justify the paperwork. Amazon’s own published figures: Basic A+ Content can lift sales up to 8%, and Premium A+ up to 20%, when done well.
Published sales lift from A+ Content (Amazon)
Both formats are free, but only Brand Registry members can use them.

We see the compounding effect constantly. When we rebuilt the listings and A+ Content for a STEM toy brand, monthly revenue grew 10ร in 60 days. For a winter accessories brand, brand-owned content plus review tools helped the hero product build 1,076 reviews at 4.3โ and climb from nowhere to top-5 organic on its core seasonal keywords.
$5k to $50k/month in 8 months
When a personal care brand we manage combined Brand Registry’s full stack (A+ Content, a Brand Store, Sponsored Brands, and Brand Analytics) with disciplined advertising, it grew 10ร in eight months, and roughly 85% of its sales today are organic.
